Special Education Teacher – Black Hawk Area Education Center
Start Date: August 2023

Transition Specialist/Job Developer

Job Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in vocational rehabilitation, business, education, or related field. Experience working with youth with disabilities is preferred.
Duties: Working with high school teachers, assisting students with disabilities to prepare for employment by learning pre-employment skills, and participating in job-related activities. Follow guidelines developed by the Illinois Department of Human Services/Division of Rehabilitation Services to assist these students in seeking and maintaining employment as well as preparing for work and/or training after high school. The successful candidate will be able to work well with youth with disabilities, their parents and teachers, and business owners, managers, and staff.

Physical Therapist
Start Date: August 2023

Job Qualifications: Illinois Physical Therapist License (IDPFR)
Duties: Provides school-based therapy that is integrated into the school’s educational program as a means to enhance functioning and attain educational objectives; provides support to the total educational system; assists with problem-solving to eliminate barriers that hinder access to educational environments and provides modifications and accommodations to support students in their education program. Designs, develops, and coordinates, in conjunction with other team members, the therapy objectives within the educational program for individual students under the therapist’s direction. Implements professional practices and standards associated with the discipline (e.g. IDFPR, ISBE). Utilizes prevention, promotion, and intervention strategies to support academic achievement and social participation in the educational environment. Contributes to the professional community.

Job Qualifications: Experience working with preschool-age children. Capable of lifting 15 lbs. At least 19 years of age. High school diploma/GED. Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.

School Psychologist – School Psychology Interns

Job Qualifications: Illinois Professional Educator License with Teacher of the Blind/Visually Impaired endorsement
Duties: Provide direct services to students with visual impairments, writing IEPs, and providing consultation services to school staff. Develop an individual diagnostic profile and write an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each child receiving itinerant services; Provide academic tutoring in the subject matter areas that require supportive assistance; Provide professional services to classroom teachers to help them in their relationship with the visually impaired; Participate in an annual review of the child’s progress and rewrite the IEP; Serve as a resource regarding materials and equipment available for the education of the visually impaired.
